SUCCESSFUL VERIFICATION OF THE ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT SYSTEM
Successful Verification of the Environmental Management System
Belgrade, December 5 - The Environmental Management System (EMS) was given the highest grade according to the ISO 14001 standard during the verification conducted by consulting company SGS.
The protection and improvement of the environment is one of the priorities of Yettel and that is why we try to use natural resources in our everyday business activities consciously. Yettel aims to develop awareness for all the possible opportunities of collective and individual contribution for natural resources and energy preservation in the minds of its employees, customers, and stakeholders as well. Energy efficiency, reduction of pollutant emissions, waste management, its disposal and recycling, as well as rationalization in the use of resources are an integral part of company’s business operations.
How we contribute to the reduction of the carbon footprint:
- We use more ecologically friendly equipment and work tools (vehicles with lower gas emissions, bulbs with lower electricity consumption, etc.);
- Each year, on the last Saturday of March, we participate in the “Earth Hour“ action, during which we turn off advertisements and internal lighting at all our retail establishments and HQ for one hour;
- We have replaced the FLUO lighting in HQ offices with LED lighting;
- We have replaced regular projectors with laser ones;
- We have introduced cards for printer control access;
- We have installed a thermostat with a limited scope of temperature oscillations (+/- 2°C).
- As a 100% green network, we use electrical energy from renewable energy sources, and 29 of our shops also use electrical energy obtained from the hydroelectric power plant “Đerdap 1”;
- All of our recently joined employees attend a training course on environmental protection and are informed of our values through the onboarding workshop.
How we contribute to the reduction of waste production and recycling:
- We participate in primary waste selection at our workplace;
- We created a digital service called Eco Bonus, by the activation of which the customers give their approval for plastic and paper waste a citizen of Serbia produces, on average, to be recycled in their name;
- Through our mobile device recycling programme, since April 2021 we have collected and recycled over 380,000 devices, or, 30 tons of electronic and electrical waste. Our aim is to recycle one million devices by the year 2025;
- By using the digital tools and reducing printed materials, we have saved around 2,133,000 sheets of paper and around 1,855,000 envelopes. We offer our users the option of an electronic, instead of a paper bill, and thanks to the fact that over 64% of our individual users have opted for the electronic bill, in theory, we have mutually saved over 7,000 trees. Our aim is to have one million users of the electronic bill by the year 2025;
- By placing boxes for disposing bottle caps, we have collected 33 kilograms of plastic caps for the “Cap for Handicap” initiative;
- We have collected about 5 kg of cigarette package waste for the association “Our House”;
- We have banned the use of plastic cups, meaning that in the HQ and regional centres we use ceramic mugs and glasses, while in the retail establishments we use paper cups;
- Over ten years ago, we replaced plastic bags with paper ones in our retail establishments.
