Recertification of the Environmental Management System according to ISO 14001
Belgrade, December 1 -
At the external
audit conducted by the consulting company SGS, Yettel’s Environmental
Management System was recertified for the fourth time under the ISO 14001
standard. The certificate is available HERE.
Protection and improvement of the environment
is one of the company's priorities. Yettel wants to build awareness among its
employees, customers, and all stakeholders about the possibilities of collective
and individual contribution to the preservation of natural resources and
energy. Energy efficiency, lowering emission levels of pollutants, effective
waste management, proper disposal and recycling, along with the rational use of
resources, form an essential part of the company's business operations.
How we contribute to reducing our carbon footprint:
- We
use eco-friendlier work equipment and tools, including vehicles with
reduced gas emissions and energy-efficient light bulbs, among others.
- We
have been participating in the “Earth Hour” campaign for 15 years, where
on the last Saturday of March, we switch off our advertisements and indoor
lighting for one hour across all our retail locations and the
headquarters;
- We
use LED lighting in the offices of the administration building;
- We
replaced traditional projectors for laser ones;
- We
introduced cards to control printer access;
- We
installed thermostats with limited range of temperature oscillations (+/-
2°C).
- As
a 100% green network, we use electricity from
renewable energy sources, and 31 of our branches also use electricity
obtained from the hydroelectric power plant "Đerdap 1;
- During
the spring and summer months, employees were able to use
electric scooters and bicycles as
means of transportation.
- All our new employees undergo environmental training and are introduced to our values through an onboarding workshop.
Our Contributions to Minimizing Waste Production and Enhancing Recycling
- Our
employees participate in the primary selection of waste at the workplace;
- By
activating the
Eco Bonus digital service, customers
give consent to recycle, on their behalf, plastic and paper waste produced
by an average resident of Serbia. So far, 360,797 kg of plastic and
172,557 kg of paper/cardboard have been recycled on behalf of customers;
- Since
April 2021, we have collected and recycled more than 612,000 devices, i.e.
more than 55 tons of electronic and electrical waste through the
mobile device recycling program. Our goal is to
recycle one million devices by 2025;
- We provide
our customers with the option of electronic billing over traditional paper
bills. With 72% of our individual customers choosing electronic bills, we
have theoretically saved over 11,000 trees together.
- Our
employees have made significant contributions by collecting and recycling
931 kg of plastic caps for the 'Cap for Handicap' initiative, cigarette
packs for the 'Our House' Association, and various electronic and electrical
waste during Yettel's E-Waste Recycling Day;
- We
have discontinued the use of plastic cups. As a
result, we use ceramic mugs and glass cups are in our HQ and regional
centers, and paper cups in our retail channel. With this action, we
prevented over 24,000 cups from becoming plastic waste.
- We
replaced plastic bags in retail shops with paper ones more than ten years
ago.
